〜Housing Security Benefit Program〜
We would like to inform you about Japan’s public rent support system, “Housing Security Benefit”. Due to the economic impact of COVID-19, many people are facing difficulties paying rent because of reduced income or job loss. The Japanese government provides this program to offer rent-equivalent financial assistance for a certain period. ■ What is the Housing Security Benefit? This benefit is part of the “Self-Reliance Support Program for the Needy,” launched in 2015. It supports individuals who have lost their housing, or are at risk of losing it, due to unemployment or financial hardship. The national and local governments pay rent-equivalent benefits to help ensure stable housing and employment opportunities. ■ Payment Period In principle, 3 months (extendable up to 9 months for those actively seeking employment). ■ Eligibility and Application Applicants must meet income, asset, and job-seeking criteria, which may vary by municipality.
