Tomorrow, September 6, marks the anniversary of the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake that struck in 2018.
This powerful earthquake, centered in the eastern part of the Iburi region in Hokkaido, recorded a maximum seismic intensity of 7, causing the deaths of 41 people and injuring more than 600.
It also triggered Japan’s first-ever nationwide blackout across all of Hokkaido.
Landslides and power outages occurred over a wide area, resulting in significant human and infrastructure damage.
This disaster reminded everyone in Japan of the vital importance of disaster prevention and preparedness.
